Levy County Welcomes Your Business & Your Family

The Nature Coast Business Development Council, Inc. is an organization created by the Board of County Commissioners of Levy County to actively encourage responsible development with many significant incentives. Levy County is rural and beautiful. Our community welcomes new businesses and their families into our communities with open arms. The majority of job growth in this rural County comes as the result of relocation of current businesses. Companies choosing to locate in Levy County find they are appreciated and welcomed into the Community.

Levy County is made up of eight municipalities: City of Bronson, City of Cedar Key, City of Chiefland, City of Fanning Springs, City of Inglis, City of Otter Creek, City of Williston, and the City of Yankeetown. Levy County offers a rural and coastal lifestyle. Nature based tourism is the leading industry in Levy County. We offer miles and miles of bike trails and have numerous springs and parks open to the public.

We specialize in helping large and small businesses, geared to their specific needs. Business plans, human resource manuals, training assistance, grant assistance as well connecting your business with other resources. We help advise entrepreneurs on sources of funding and provide assistance in preparing business plans. A great deal of effort is devoted to seeking information about grants available from State and Federal governments and assistance in preparing grant applications.

Levy County offers a slower pace of life. Although rural and down-to-earth, each community is constantly growing. The City of Chiefland will have a new hospital under construction in late 2008 or early 2009. Ameris HealthCare Systems recently received a certificate of need from the State of Florida for the Tri-County hospital that will locate in Chiefland but service Levy, Dixie, and Gilchrist Counties. Progress Energy has also announced the first site in 25 years to build a new nuclear plan. The City of Inglis has the 10,000 acre site that is currently being permitted and processed for the nuclear project. Although such a project takes many years and it’s likely to take 10 years or so before the plan is built and operational, the impact on the community financially and socially will be tremendous.

The NCBDC was responsible for making application to the State of Florida for an Enterprise Zone. In February 2007, Governor Christ designated parts of Levy County as an Enterprise Zone. This “Zone” provides special tax incentives and breaks for businesses that are located inside the “Zone” boundaries. There are a limited number of Enterprise Zones throughout the State of Florida and Levy County is privileged to be able to offer this incentive package. More information is available under the incentives page regarding this program.

Lastly, the NCBDC advises the Board of County  and each Municipality on economic development matters within the County.
